Silkworm

musee-soie-sericicultureSilkworm culture is the raising of silkworms, from the hatching of the eggs and the birth of the worms through their transformation into butterflies (the mulberry bombyx) It was a complementary agricultural activity practiced in Taulignan since the 18th century. While being raised in attics the silk worms eat a lot of mulberry leaves; after a growth period of about a month, the worms weave their cocoon by transforming their saliva into 800-1500 meters of silk thread.
